Derek Cianfrance's THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES reminded me yet again how it’s human nature to want to know where you came from and that such a desire isn’t wrong or selfish, but rather innate. It’s not about simple curiosity; it’s about an existential desire to know who we are.

That's a big part of the reason I'm writing the memoir about meeting my biological family, but I worry that people in my life, especially people in the book, see it as just the opposite.
